MEET IAIN SCOTT
Iain Scott is recognised as one of the foremost experts in how people learn to be enterprising and an entrepreneur. He originally studied History at the University of Glasgow. He then taught it for five years, and in a fit of madness, he claims, chucked it to start his first food business. He raised venture capital and employed over twenty five people and sold to Harrods ,top delicatessens and then major supermarkets.
Then it all changed.
As it all changed Iain realised he was not a manufacturer-though he learned a phenomenal amount-he was a teacher. And he knew that he was more interested in people and how they learn to be entrepreneurs.
Iain then went back to Glasgow University to work on how people learned to be enterprising. He is now regarded as one of the foremost experts in this field. The Cognitive Business Therapy process was developed via a unique range of activities called The Enterprise Island Challenge which took place across the UK. Working with people who had always wanted to change their lives through starting a business was he said “inspiring exciting and frustrating”. The inspiration and excitement came from the people. The frustration from the support network which focussed not on people and the aspirations but business planning and took no account of how people learned. “Politicians and advisors get turned on by big business and picking winners. It is offensive to the real people who are having a go “he said.
